In ihrem neuen und zugleich faszinierenden Buch „TWO CITIES“ schlüpft Monika Leisch-Kiesl in die Rolle der Erzählerin und stellt zwei Autorinnen gegenüber, die sich beide mit dem Erbauen von Städten in Gestalt von Büchern beschäftigen. Dabei beschreibt sie ausgewählte Werke von Christine de Pizan und Irena Lagator Pejović aus einer unglaublich fesselnden Ich-Perspektive. Leser:innen können so spannende Debatten und Überlegungen zu ethischer Verantwortung in Hinblick auf Städte und Bücher hautnah mitvollziehen. Die Autorin changiert zwischen einer allegorischen Stadt der Frauen und sich im Laufe der Zeit verändernden Städten. Die Debatte erstreckt sich dabei nicht nur über mehrere Länder, sondern durchschreitet auch den Zeitraum vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart. Zudem ist das Buch dreisprachig angelegt: Die Texte sind neben Deutsch auch auf Englisch und Montenegrinisch übersetzt.

Monika Leisch-Kiesl’s Two Cities: An Aesthetic Approach to Ethical Responsibility is a compact but intellectually generous study that stages an encounter between the medieval writer Christine de Pizan, a Venetian-born author active at the French royal court and among the first women in Europe to earn a living by her writing, and Irena Lagator Pejović, a Montenegrin contemporary visual artist, art theorist, and associate professor based in Cetinje and Podgorica. Rather than forcing a false symmetry, the book treats their “two cities” – the symbolic City of Ladies and the knowledge architecture of the Limited Responsibility Society – as distinct yet resonant projects that invite readers to rethink what a city, a book, and responsibility can mean today. … –> for further reading
